Musical duo makes music just for seniors

Retirement living seniors living in the city of Lubbock, Texas will start hearing more music in the coming years with the rise of a local singing duo.

According to a recent article in the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal newspaper, Lori Sealy and Kurt Melle recently created the band Easy Does It, and have decided to focus their talent and energy on entertaining the city’s senior population.

They will sing songs familiar to many seniors, including songs from earlier in the 20th century.

“I know they perform at a lot of the retirement homes, and they are on the same page with those people, even though they really are a generation or two behind them. Their music is just so user-friendly,” April Tidwell, who lives in a local assisted living community, told the newspaper.

The two band members have very different musical backgrounds. Lori Sealy has taught music for more than 20 years and holds three university degrees, but is relatively new to performing in front of audiences, and Kurt Melle has no formal training in music, but has been performing for years.

Sealy and Melle told the media outlet they consider their music not simply entertainment, but a way to keep seniors engaged and happy.
