Assisted living residents get musical visit

Many studies have shown the benefits of music therapy for residents of retirement living and assisted living communities, and according to a recent report, one nursing home in Arkansas got a special musical visit recently from a family bluegrass band.

Residents of the Green Acres Nursing Home in Paragould, Arkansas were recently treated to a musical performance by the Rigney Family Bluegrass Band, according to the KAIT 8 news website.

“Our residents are just jumping up and down. They've been watching them. They know who they are and have been anticipating this ever since they found out they were coming,” Marlisa Thompson, administrator of the nursing home, said.

The Rigney Family Bluegrass Band has been touring for the last four years, and Mark Rigney, the band’s father, told the news source they are always happy to play in retirement homes.

“The best part of this, for us, is seeing smiles on people's faces and getting to meet really neat folks and see a lot of new places. We have met so many wonderful people and it's just a blessing for us to get to be able to do that and share the music that we love.”
