Families who are looking for a senior living community that is specially suited for the needs of an older adult may have a difficult time choosing and researching their options. There aren't too many comprehensive guides and listings, but U.S. News & World Report has recently published a new ranking for 15,000 nursing homes entitled U.S. News Best Nursing Homes.
Each retirement home is categorized by state using federal data and then ranked by three separate categories.
Eighteen earned perfect scores. Each time a community receives this rating, it will be boosted to the Honor Roll. These online records are updated every quarter using Medicare, Medicaid and other government statistics.
"The Best Nursing Homes rankings and search tools were designed to help families deal with the pressure and confusion of picking a home at a difficult time," Avery Comarow, Health Rankings Editor, said in a statement.
Families who are looking into retirement facilities should keep in mind that the best way to truly research options is to visit each one and engage the residents and faculty there to see how it feels, according to The Chicago Tribune.
