A group of senior citizens in Clay Township, Michigan, recently took to the stage to raise money for the St. Clair County Council on Aging's Washington Life Center, and while it may have served primarily as a fundraiser, the night also treated audience members to some impressive performances and a few laughs. The Times Herald reports that the Off Our Rockers Variety Show included tap dancing, comedy skits and other entertaining fare.
One of the performers was 69-year-old Margie Westrick, who was in a number of dances.
Westrick openly admits that they are not in their prime, but she never questioned the amount of enjoyment she and other got out of it.
"It is just a lot of fun with a lot of really nice people," Westrick told the news source. "We really have a good time. We might not be the best dancers, but it's just for the fun."
Many of the those involved said that they participated as a way to stay active and feel younger. Contribution to such an event can be one way for older adults to maintain an active lifestyle, and according to the Centers for Disease Control, staying physically active can yield significant benefits for one's mental health and mood.
