The Sun Cities Women's Octogenarian golf tournament will be taking place on April 19 and 23, and there are several active living seniors vying for the winning title, according to YourWestValley.com
"It's very seldom that you look forward to being 80 years old, but with this event, you do," Betty Welch, who tied for second place in the tournament last year, told the news source.
The Sun City, South Carolina, competition will feature 18 holes in total.
The reigning champion, Jane Quad, will not be competing this year because of health concerns.
The news source reports that the favorite to win this year is Janet Castergine. If she claims the title, the senior would make history with it being her third win.
"I got a new set of clubs and I'm hitting them really well," Castergine told the news source. "I'm playing good, not great."
Active living seniors should remember that a physical fitness routine can be started at any age. The National Institute of Aging reports that exercise can help alleviate depression, delay the onset of cancer, and help prevent diabetes.
