Assisted living facilities can be responsible, caring

Many families are often reluctant to enroll their loved ones into an assisted living facility because they are worried about the quality of care that their relative will receive.

However, according to U.S. News and World Reports, there are many nursing homes that provide reliably loving and effective care to their residents.

Assisted living facilities can be responsible, caring

For example, Evergreen Health Center, a progressive assisted living facility located in Kirkland, Wisconsin, prides itself on fostering a home-like environment where residents have more freedoms than in a traditional institution.

The facility made it onto the news source's list of America's Best Nursing Homes, which includes over 15,000 locations.

Many senior care homes have made the decision to move away from the hospital model of care. Now, it's common for residents to live in groups of 10 to 30 people, which can create a community atmosphere, the news source reports.

As the aging baby boomer population begins to require more services, such as Alzheimer's care, the need for pleasant and nurturing assisted living communities is likely to grow.

According to the Mayo Clinic, nearly half of the people over 85 suffer from Alzheimer's disease.
