Health-conscious seniors who are always looking for new places to eat may want to check out some of their local fast food chains, specifically McDonalds.
Health Magazine listed the top ten healthy fast food chains and placed the restaurant known for French fries and golden arches at number eight. However, the magazine stressed the health aspect of the McDonalds experience depended on a customer's choices.
Frances Largeman-Roth, the publication's senior food and nutrition editor, told the Early Show on CBS the Grilled Chicken Classic sandwich and wraps are good healthy choices, provided people skip the mayo or sauce.
The top chain named by the magazine was Panera Bread, a restaurant with a menu dedicated to sandwiches, salads and soups.
"This bakery-café-based eatery wowed our judges with a comprehensive menu of healthy choices for every meal," stated the article.
"Also, most of the chicken is antibiotic- and hormone-free, a rarity for large chains."
However, customers were warned of the Panera "danger zone" with the sticky bums and cheese Danishes on display at the counter.
Seniors who adhere to a regular healthy diet can reduce their risk of developing conditions such as heart disease and diabetes.
