Website helps diabetics self-manage

With so much information floating around about diabetes self-management, one website is adding a new element that will present practical "do-it-yourself" information for diabetics.

Today, American Diabetes Wholesale (ADW) announced the launch of DIY Diabetes, a new category in the education area on the company's main website, DestinationDiabetes.com.

DIY Diabetes will give practical, self-management advice for people living with the condition.

"Our goal is to help our diabetes customers get the information they need to successfully manage their diabetes," said Chris Maguire, co-founder of ADW.

The new website element was created by Marci Sloane, a registered and licensed dietitian, nutritionist and certified diabetes educator.

Some Americans who have used ADW for supplies have seen their medication bills decrease from $300 to $180, CBS4 in South Florida reports.

Those who purchase items from ADW's website by November 30th, 2008, will receive a free one-year subscription to Diabetes Self-Management Magazine.

As of last year, it was estimated that 12.2 million people in the U.S. age 60 and older have diabetes.
