Is sex safe for seniors?

Nelly Hall attracted some attention when she stood at her booth during the Southern Maine Senior Expo, recently held in the city of Freeport.

According to a recent article on the Maine Public Broadcasting Network (mpbn.net), Hall, who is the owner of a sex boutique in Portland, Maine, stood out from many of the other vendors at the show.

And while Hall told the news source that she often gets some surprised reactions by seniors who come to such expos and trade shows, they are a big segment of her target market, and many are taking interest in her products, which include personal massagers and massage oils and candles.
“This is a demographic I feel that is greatly underserved, and they have a lot of questions,” Hall told MPBN.

One aging expert, gerontologist Dr. Marilyn Gugliucci from the University of New England, told the news source that seniors and sexuality is a hot topic which is receiving more attention than it ever has before.

As RetirementHomes.com reported recently, sexually-transmitted infections (STIs) are also a growing problem among older people, so more education, both in Maine assisted living communities and across North America, will help seniors protect themselves against dangerous and harmful infections.
