Olympic Torchbearer Visits Retirement Residents

Gavin Hanson is a firefighter from Runcorn, UK, about 50 miles from Liverpool, home of The Beatles.

An Olympic torchbearer, Hanson traveled to nearby Widnes to speak with older people about his once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

The father of three told Runcorn and Widnes World:  “Carrying the torch was the most amazing moment of my life. The fact that so many people turned out to see us run was just overwhelming."

The event took place at the Kingsway Leisure Centre and included senior games, dancing and new age bowls.

Sports development officer, Paula Parle, told the media source: “It was great to see young and old alike enjoying each other’s company and having a go at new sports.”

Assisted Living and Continuing Care residences will be glued to the TV during the London, UK Olympics.
