Meet the world's oldest Facebook user

Facebook, the world’s largest social media website, has nearly one billion users. And, contrary to popular belief, they’re not all 20-somethings. In fact, many of them aren’t.

But Florence Detlor holds the distinction of being Facebook’s most senior user: 101 years old, according to ABCNews.com. The California woman even recently met with Facebook’s senior management team, including founder Mark Zuckerberg and executive Sheryl Sandberg.

“They just called one day and said they wanted me to get to meet Facebook,” the news source quoted Detlor as saying.

Detlor told ABCNews that when she visited Facebook, Zuckerberg took her on a tour of the offices and met workers.

She joined Facebook after reading about Mark Zuckerberg in the news and since then, Detlor has been an avid user of the social media site, and since becoming a television celebrity and appearing on Jay Leno, National Public Radio and in USA Today, Detlor says if she doesn’t use Facebook for a day or two, she sometimes finds as many as 300 messages in her inbox.

And that, according to ABCNews, is her favourite part of being a Facebook user: receiving and reading all the messages she is sent by admirers and fans around the world.

If Florence Detlor's story is a lesson, it may be that being active on social media will help make you the most popular person at your assisted living community.
