- Introduction: We begin by explaining the simple course navigation features and the goals and structure of the course. What are the main issues for drivers over 55? We explore the effects of aging on driver performance, licensing and insurance discounts, risk evaluation, and crash prevention. Throughout the course, these issues will be explained in more detail.
- The Driver: It is important to be sure you are physically and mentally ready to drive. There are a number of medical conditions that can affect your driving ability. We concentrate specifically on visual techniques for safe driving.
- Impaired Driving: Alcohol, drugs, fatigue, inattention and distraction are all major driving impairments that we encounter as drivers. In this unit, you will learn the dangerous effects of these hazards and how you can prevent causing an accident.
- The Driving Environment: This unit explains road signs, signals, and markings. It also educates you on new features and technology that have changed the way people drive. Learn to properly share the road, navigate intersections, and drive in various road conditions and locations.
- Driving Emergencies: Regardless of how careful you are on the road, difficult situations may still arise. This unit includes: system failures, collision avoidance, managing traction and visibility, reducing collision consequences, and roadside emergencies.
- The Vehicle: It is important to be educated about your vehicle. This unit focuses on vehicle maintenance and technologies including safety equipment and preparing your car for a trip.
