Battle of the bands in Ohio to benefit Alzheimer's

The Cleveland Daily Banner reports that Life Care Centers of America is hosting its second annual Battle of the Bands to raise awareness and funds to combat the mental illness.

"This community rallies around a lot of great causes and sometimes it is easy for certain causes to get more attention then others. Alzheimer's is such a misunderstood disease.

Battle of the bands in Ohio to benefit Alzheimer's People don't ... really realize the toll that Alzheimer's takes," director of public relations of the group Rob Alderman told the news source.

There is a $20 registration fee for each of the six bands that will be participating, and the winner will be rewarded with four days of studio time to record their music. Tickets are $10 and all the money raised will be donated to the Alzheimer's Association.

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, Alzheimer's affects up to 10 percent of people over the age of 65, and that figure rises to nearly 50 percent for those over the age of 85.
