Date Added: 30-03-2005

DUPAGE COUNTY -- DuPage County is seeking volunteers to visit long-term care facilities such as nursing homes and serve as advocates to protect and promote the rights of residents.

The "Long Term Care Ombudsman Program" provides help to seniors in a wide range of areas, such as reporting cases of physical abuse, helping with medical care and settling disputes related to visitation or privacy.

Volunteers will be assigned to a nursing home and required to visit once a month. They will receive a one-day training course as well as supervised training visits to a nursing home.

An informational meeting will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Jack T. Knuepfer Administration Building at 421 N. County Farm Rd., Room 1-500B, in Wheaton.
