Fired director files lawsuit against Oak Knoll Senior Living

Retirement News : Seniors : Fired director files lawsuit against Oak Knoll Senior Living

Date Added: 24-03-2005

PARADISE - The former director of Oak Knoll Senior Living has filed a lawsuit in Butte County Superior Court claiming she was wrongly fired.

Carol Miller, 53, of Paradise, alleges Oak Knoll's owner, Lifestyles Senior Housing Managers LLC, fired her last May after she moved several residents to other facilities because Oak Knoll couldn't provide adequate care. She claims Oak Knoll wanted to retain higher-paying residents to keep occupancy levels, known as the census, high.

"They were just very worried about their census and not worried about their employees and their patients," Miller said.

The 108-unit Buschmann Road facility provides assisted living care to residents, but Miller said the residents are supposed to be somewhat mobile and able to care for themselves. She said the facility and staff aren't trained or staffed to handle higher levels of care.
