Senior Community for Retired Military Opening This Summer

Retirement News : Seniors : Senior Community for Retired Military Opening This Summer

Date Added: 23-03-2005

DUPONT, WA -- Retired military personnel from all uniformed services are being offered one more assignment: the opportunity to live in a $35,000,000 senior community dedicated to people sharing the same professional experience of service to their country. Opening in June of this year, military retirees of all ranks will be changing their address to Patriots Landing, 1600 Marshall Circle in DuPont, Washington, where common backgrounds and similar lifestyles will be the order of the day.

Unique in the United States, and literally absent in the Northwest, Patriots Landing provides retired military seniors with an opportunity to live in comfortable, high-end housing without a buy-in fee. Throughout development and construction, feedback has been gathered from an advisory board comprised of retired military career veterans and their spouses. Fulfilling an important need, Patriots Landing already has more than 100 deposits from future residents awaiting move-in. While prior military service in the area has lured many retirement age service personnel back to the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, the location is also attractive due to its close proximity to the services provided by Ft. Lewis, Madigan Army Medical Center, McChord Airbase and Naval Base Kitsap.

Lieutenant General Bill Harrison and his wife Jo will eventually become residents of Patriots Landing. Retiring this year from his position on the Lakewood City Council, General Harrison finds the idea of living with other former military personnel and their families very compelling. "Thirty-seven years of service has clearly shown me that people in the military service have their own special culture. We work, train, live and die together. It isn't surprising that we find strength and contentment by being together in the Golden Years. The camaraderie we share is very special."
