By SHAWBONG FOK/Democrat staff Writer More senior housing may be coming to Woodland. It just hasn't been approved yet. Plans are in the works for what may be Woodland's first series of senior housing - private homes exclusively for those 55 and older.
Woodland already has other senior-housing developments, but are either condominium or apartments. Some are located in gated communities.
None, however, are free standing.
One of the Sacramento region's biggest builders, K. Hovnanian Forecast Homes, projects to turn the 38-acre land south of the County Fair Mall into a master-planned community of 267 homes - 184 of them attached, 83 free-standing.
With a location on the northeast corner of County Road 24A and East Street, the development would complement the nearby future $16-million senior and community center and supply much needed housing for Woodland's elderly. In a similar development by Hovnanian in El Dorado Hills, prices for one residential dwelling averages at $505,059, according to published news reports.
