Members of the Golden and District Health Co-operative have announced they will hold a community forum in order to garner public support for the group's alternative proposal to build a 24-unit 'seniors village' in Golden. Co-op chair Karen Smedley and her colleagues made an earlier presentation on the matter to the Interior Health Authority (IHA) at the board's meeting in Penticton last week. In it, the group outlined in detail its plans for building the expanded facility, billed by the co-op as an alternative to an 8-unit assisted living facility that has been postponed by B.C. Housing due to rising construction costs. "We went in with a more detailed proposal," says Smedley, who first pitched the idea to IHA at its Golden board meeting in September and was invited to Penticton for a follow-up session.
