Area's assisted living costs among highest in nation

Assisted living costs are rising significantly faster than inflation, and some of the highest prices in the nation are in the Washington region.
 
An annual report from MetLife says the average monthly base price for assisted living services rose from $2,524 in 2004 to $2,905 this year, or $34,860 a year.

The 2005 MetLife Survey of Assisted Living Costs ranks Boston the most expensive for assisted living, at $4,629 per month.
