Monroe Council candidates meet Mount Pleasant seniors

MONROE — A proposed casino again was on the minds of Monroe’s citizens.
On Tuesday, Mount Pleasant Retirement Community hosted a candidates forum, and like a recent similar session, those in attendance wanted to know how the city council hopefuls stood on the intergovernmental agreement with the Eastern Shawnee tribe for the construction of a proposed casino and a half percent income tax increase.
Many residents said there were unsure what a “yes” or “no” vote on the intergovernmental agreement meant.
Candidate Anna Hale, who works in Mount Pleasant’s public relations department, said she is morally against the casino project. But she declined to say whether she would support the intergovernmental agreement.
