Seniors across the country are asking if their current prescription plan is as good as the new Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit. Even after months of debate and discussion, the answer to that question does not come easy. Hence, seniors still find it difficult to make a decision and select a private insurer to cover their prescription drug expenses.
On Friday, over 300 seniors packed the hall at the Warwick firehouse to learn more about the nationwide drug benefit program available through Medicare. Congressman Michael Fitzpatrick said the turnout has been equally as large at similar forums held throughout the area. Fitzpatrick was on hand as forum moderator and to talk with seniors about their concerns. State Representative Katharine Watson also made an appearance at the forum.
Attendees listened to representatives from Bucks County agencies, such as the Area Agency on Aging, hoping to obtain enough information to help them make the right decision and to clear up any misconceptions they might have about the Medicare drug plan. But representatives stressed seniors don't have to forge ahead alone; there are services available to assist seniors in selecting an insurance company. There are 20 to choose from in Pennsylvania.
