LAKEWOOD RANCH — No one would have blinked if The Windsor of Lakewood Ranch had been constructed in the 1990s.
Those were go-go years for assisted-living industry.
Thousands of centers, offering round-the-clock care for aging and frail seniors, were built across the country.
But like so many Wall Street-driven trends, the assisted-living industry became overbuilt and fell into a deep recession from which it’s only just beginning to emerge.
The Windsor, a 70,000-square-foot, two-story building boasting 80 private apartments, is one of the few large-scale assisted-living centers to be built in Southwest Florida so far this decade.
