Judy Laurent needed a job.
At 62 years old, physical work isn't as much of an option for her anymore. But until recently, she hadn't been trained for anything else.
"I've never done anything that isn't physical," she said.
So she contacted the Olympic Area Agency on Aging (O3A). For the last year, she's been taking courses to acquire the skills necessary to make her a better candidate for some of the less physical jobs in the area.
"I've learned a lot. Multi-tasking, computer work, data input," Laurent said. "Everything you need to work at a front desk, I can do it."
In addition to that, she’s gained hands-on experience at the agency, working part-time at the front desk. It's an opportunity offered through the Senior Community Employment Program, a program funded through Title 5 of the Older Americans Act aimed at helping older workers find full-time, unsubsidized employment within two years.
