MANTECA — A senior active community of 1,425 homes for people 55 and older will be added to the city, along with 341 apartments and 535 homes for residents of any age. Last week, the San Joaquin Local Agency Formation Commission, the state-mandated agency that oversees boundary changes to cities, approved Mantecas request to annex 560 acres, said Bruce Baracco, LAFCOs executive officer.
The annexed land is on the north side of Lathrop Road, between Airport Way and the railroad.
The senior community will be built on 355 acres. Homes should start selling by fall 2007 and be completed by 2113.
Its not senior assisted, said Tony Hallbourg of Pulte Homes, the communitys builder.
Instead, a senior active community is for people who want to stay healthy, work out and go to the gym, but also may not want a lot of land to take care of or stairs to climb.
