Assisted living proposal at Gulick House site delayed again
Date Added: 26-09-2005
Differing points of view have delayed the assisted living housing site proposal. Read the excerpt below.
Lawrence Ledger - Lawrence,NJ,USA
At the applicant's request, the Zoning Board of Adjustment has postponed a public hearing on a use variance application for an assisted living facility — planned for the site of the historic William Gulick House — until its Nov. 2 meeting. The William Gulick House at the corner of Route 206 and Province Line Road is located in the Environmental Protection-1 zone. A use variance is needed because assisted living facilities are not permitted in the EP-1 zone. The public hearing had been set for Wednesday, but it was rescheduled Monday to allow the applicant — 3641 Lawrenceville Road LLC — enough time to consider alternate sites for the assisted living facility. This is the second postponement of the public hearing. It was first set for Sept. 7, and then rescheduled for Sept. 21. Attorney Steven Rother, who represents 3641 Lawrenceville Road LLC, said his client had agreed to postpone the Sept. 7 meeting at the request of a nearby resident who objects to the planned 150-bed facility. Menachem Sternberg of Landfall Lane requested the delay while he and township officials searched for a different location for the facility in the community, according to documents on file at the township Department of Community Development.
