BRICK — Ulla Melyan, executive director of The Gables, an assisted living residence, looked at the long line of residents dressed as clowns and watched them parade happily around the room.

"It is so great to see all of them enjoying themselves," Melyan said. "It seems like every single one of them is smiling today, having such a good time."

The smiles, laughter and comic touches were all part of a special celebration at the Gables, kicking off National Assisted Living Week.
