By JESSICA ADLER and SUZANNE TRAVERS HERALD NEWS George Restaino, 84, would like to pay less for his medications, so his curiosity was piqued when a friend mentioned a new Medicare plan. Beyond the few details he gleaned, "I don't know anything about it," said Restaino of Little Falls, who spends about $300 out-of-pocket each month on heart and blood pressure drugs.
Over the next five months, every American age 65 and older will be bombarded with information about Medicare Part D, which offers prescription drug coverage to beneficiaries of the federally funded insurance program. Senior and community centers are buzzing about the sweeping changes to come. AARP and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services are rolling out public information campaigns this month. But with enrollment beginning Nov. 15, many people remain |apprehensive and confused about a plan that could drastically affect how they pay for their prescription medications.
