It isn't the game of shuffleboard that she'll miss, even though Massie says it is trickier than it looks. Massie will miss the people who included her in their shuffleboard matches.
"They would be playing and someone would get tired, so they would come and get me. At first, I was reluctant. Then it got so that I was almost disappointed when they didn't need me," smiled Massie. "They play for fun, not competition. It is so admirable. If I didn't play well they didn't send me back to the office." Massie smiles more.
On Friday, Aug. 26, Massie "officially" retired from a position she has held for the last 10 years. A job that began as a "fill-in" position as the local coordinator for the nutrition program soon became a huge portion of Massie's life.
In the weekend following her last day, Massie says that she wore her husband out with talk of the job. Even though they were on a mini-vacation, he wondered if she wasn't still working.
