Ruby Carter moved into Peddle Park the third year it was open and hasn't regretted it for a minute.
"I like the security and the atmosphere," said Carter, 95.
On Sunday, the senior housing facility celebrated its 25th anniversary with an open house for residents and their families. The apartment building is named for Wabash Valley architect Juliet A. Peddle and is part of Bethesda Development Corp.
Vera George, 83, is one of the 108 residents of Peddle Park. She has lived there for eight years.
"I appreciate the efficiency of the management and the friendliness," she said.
The one-bedroom apartments are open to seniors who are at least 62 years old or handicapped and have low to moderate incomes.
"It's unique how we serve the community," said Ruth Fischer, who has been Peddle Park manager for 20 years.
The government-subsidized housing helps seniors live independently.
Honored during the open house were Maxine Rodabaugh, the only resident who lived at the facility the first day it opened, July 3, 1980.
Others honored were Carter and Helen Clark, who both lived at the facility in 1983. The 10 members of the 90s Club, a group of residents in their 90s, also were recognized.
Residents said they appreciate the convenient location, and can easily check their mail and go grocery shopping.
"I can come and go as I please," said Pat Bender, 75. "It's ideal for people like us."
