End of Life - Elder Care Issues Forum

Date Added: 22-05-2005

The Windsor Clergy Association will host a community-wide End of Life - Elder Care Issues Forum 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 24 in the fellowship hall of Grace Episcopal Church, 311 Broad St. (next to the library on the Windsor Town Green).

Although Terri Schaivo's recent "right-to-life/right-to-die" case maintained the interest of the general public, the members of the Windsor Clergy Association which represent all of the major religious denominations in the Windsor area, routinely deal with similar end-of-life, elder-care and health-care issues in the congregations they serve.

The decision to sponsor the May 24 Forum was made by the members of the Windsor Clergy Association in response to the growing number of ethical, moral, medical, legal, religious and procedural questions they were being asked by the members of their congregations concerning end-of-life, elder-care and health-care issues - and their conviction that other persons in the community-at-large who are not part of a community of faith are also dealing with similar questions and concerns.

The forum's panel participants include: William Pilkington, VNA Hospice; Steve Brown Esq., Johnson, Dowe & Brown; Hollis Hartman, referral service coordinator for Elder Care; "A Place for Mom"; Dr. Tankaj Gutta, Medical Director Genesis Health Care; John Carmon, Carmon Funeral Homes; Rabbi Alan Lefkowitz, Congregation Beth Ahm; Deacon Don Norton; St. Mary's R.C. Church; the Rev. Richard Huleatt, Senior Pastor, First Church in Windsor; the Rev. Frank Buonomo, Pastor, Connecticut Valley Church of Christ; the Rev. David Parachini, Rector, Grace Episcopal Church, and the Rev. Freddie Mae Barnes, Pastor, Holy Zion Church of the Jubilee. The Rev. Gordon Illausky, Pastor of Christ the King Lutheran Church and president of the Windsor Clergy Association will serve as moderator of the panel.
