Truro Daily News SHERRY MARTELL 23/10/09 TRURO – A commitment to increase the number of long-term care beds in Colchester County is on track but health authority officials say it’s too early to fully gauge the impact. Since February 2007, when the province announced 213 new nursing home beds for the county, 72 have now opened with the rest expected to be ready by the end of 2010. “We are very appreciative of the new beds that have been committed for our communities,” said Krista Wood, spokeswoman for the Colchester East Hants Health Authority. “We have begun to see the opening of some of these new beds, including 36 beds now open in Debert and 36 slated to open this month in Brookfield. “With recent openings we have seen brief impacts on our wait lists, however, we continue to experience significant pressures on our acute care beds, including delays in admissions from emergency.” Read the entire article: http://www.trurodaily.com/index.cfm?sid=297037&sc=68
