The 7.3 per cent vacancy rate for standard space in retirement homes for winter 2009 across the province, released by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. on Tuesday, appears to be in line with the national 9.2 per cent average. But participation in this province by the industry was low and may have skewed the figures presented in the seniors housing report for the Atlantic region, said an official. "This process is in its infancy and needs to achieve greater participation," said market analyst Charlie Aucoin, in an interview.
