Demand for Retirement in Panama Prompts New Teleseminars
Date Added: 25-04-2005
April 22, 2005 -- A new teleseminar service is being launched for people thinking about retiring in Panama, one of the top places in the world for those who want to retire overseas, according to the American Association of Retired Persons. This sentiment is echoed by International Living, an organization for ex-pats and those thinking about foreign retirement.
The man behind the service says he made just about every mistake in the book when he moved from Canada 18 months ago. "For one thing, I drove. The second mistake was that I drove alone. I fell asleep at the wheel in Kentucky and wrecked the car."
Six months ago, Sydney Tremayne started an information website, http://www.yourpanama.com, now in the top 1% of all sites on the Internet. He has now assembled a group of experts in Panamanian immigration law, real estate, real estate law, investment, moving and customs clearance, together with other ex-pats, to speak and to answer questions about moving to Panama and buying property there.
"Many people who come here are not interested in immigration, but they are interested in escaping northern winters. Property values here are as they were in California or Florida in the 1970s, but they are increasing quickly. That makes property in Panama an excellent investment as well as a retreat or retirement home," Tremayne says. "Property is one-tenth the price it is in Florida, for example. There are no hurricanes, and the real estate boom is just starting."
He sees his job as being to eliminate fear. "Imagine this: you are thinking of moving to another country or buying property there. You might not speak the language. You are not familiar with local customs. You need contacts, but don't know whom to trust. You might be excited, but aren't you also going the feel a degree of fear? My job is to eliminate that fear by locating people who provide trusted advice."
A resident of Panama for just 18 months, he admits he is no expert. "I see myself as a hub, finding a trustworthy team of specialists who can be relied upon in terms of quality advice, honesty and reasonable prices."
