SHARON —

Sharon council Thursday officially approved applying for $4.8 million from the Neighborhood Stabilization Program on behalf of the city, Hermitage and Farrell.

Sharon officials hope to get $3.4 million to build 20 senior housing units on 2 1/2 acres on the West Hill, Mayor Bob Lucas said.

The single-story, one- and two-bedroom townhouses would be similar to those at McDowell Manor in downtown Sharon, one of the most sought-after housing communities for seniors in the city, Lucas said.
