JAMES CITY - When he retired, Obie Williams packed up his things and moved to James City County. Twice.

The first move came after his successful career as a business consultant in Northern Virginia. In 1989, Williams and his wife decided to move here. The couple fell in love with Ford's Colony, then a brand-new development quickly filling with active middle-aged residents.

But Williams' wife soon suffered a series of serious ailments, including a massive stroke, forcing them to look for a place to live that could offer more support.
