Senior Conference takes aim at health care
Date Added: 15-04-2005
MARLBOROUGH -- The annual Senior Conference is scheduled this year for Thursday, April 21, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Assabet Valley Regional High School on Fitchburg Street in Marlborough. Hosting the event is state Sen. Pamela Resor, D-Acton. Guest speakers are Senate President Robert E. Travaglini and Jennifer Davis Carey, secretary of the Executive Office of Elder Affairs. The free, daylong event provides seniors with valuable information on issues ranging from health care and prescription drugs to personal safety and financial planning. A hot lunch followed by live entertainment and door prizes will be provided. Free samples courtesy of Wyeth Pharmaceuticals and Bayer Health Care will be distributed to seniors in the morning. This year's conference is made possible by the generous donations of many sponsors. Major sponsors of the event are Intel, RTN Federal Credit Union, Fidelity Investments, AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals and Bayer Health Care. Additional sponsors are Murphy's Insurance, Ken's Foods, Inc., St. Mary's Credit Union, Massachusetts Electric, Fallon Community Health Plan, and Stephen Gersh Insurance. Tickets for admission and door prizes are available from local councils on aging. Tickets will also be available at the door, but given the time constraints of the day, seniors are urged to get a free ticket in advance. Tickets are also available at Sen. Resor's district office in the Walker Building, 255 Main St., Marlborough, or by calling 508-786-3040. "I look forward to this event each year as an opportunity to greet and to hear from seniors around the district," said Resor. "I hope that everyone who attends will take some valuable information away with them as well as spending a fun day with friends both old and new." Among the many workshops scheduled are: "Living an Injury-free Lifestyle" sponsored by Intel; "Silver Sneakers," an exercise class sponsored by Fallon Community Health Plan; "Hot Paraffin Wax Hand Treatments and Manicures" sponsored by the students of Assabet Cosmetology Program; also a legal workshop with local attorney Kevin McAllister; "Shifting Gears" sponsored by the Registry of Motor Vehicles; "Drug Safety"; "Family Genealogy"; "Home But Not Alone" sponsored by Elder Service Plan.
