Older persons urged to take vacation by UK charity

Vacations this summer should be shorter, not eliminated, for older persons in retirement living schemes, Age Concern says.

While some pensioners surveyed by the charity have cited financial concerns for changing holiday plans to stay at home, day trips and other options could allow older persons to travel more affordably, according to the Yeovil Express. Older persons urged to take vacation by UK charity

"The over 50s hugely value taking short breaks - even just a few days away in the UK can help you to relax and unwind," said Alice Munro of Age Concern Somerset in the report.

Old-age pensioners who may be considering using buses for shorter trips can benefit from new Get On Board travel pamphlets that help retirees understand how to limit the possibility of falls while using public transportation, according to the Bath Chronicle.

"While the bus remains one of the safest forms of transport around, we recognise some older people may have a fear of falling, and we are keen to support them," said Justin Davies, regional marketing director of transport firm First, told the news provider.

Medical tourism tips from CDC could help seniors going abroad Friday, July 31, 2009

Seniors who travel abroad as part of active living plans in retirement may want to take a look at the latest issue of the Centers for Disease Control "Yellow Book" or guide for international travel and health.

Older Americans still vacationing, reports travel site Monday, April 20, 2009

The economic downturn may not have hit some senior citizens who are still jetting to exotic locales as they continue to travel as part of retirement living, according to one travel booking website.

Grand Circle Travel Forums reported that $20 million in travel packages were booked through its forums in the first quarter of 2009, and some of the most popular trips noted were river tours near the Black Sea, a trip to Egypt and the Nile River, as well as trips exploring India and Vietnam.

"There's such high demand among older travelers to connect with each other and to talk with those of us who put their trips together," said CEO Vince Cook.
