Vacations this summer should be shorter, not eliminated, for older persons in retirement living schemes, Age Concern says.
While some pensioners surveyed by the charity have cited financial concerns for changing holiday plans to stay at home, day trips and other options could allow older persons to travel more affordably, according to the Yeovil Express.
"The over 50s hugely value taking short breaks – even just a few days away in the UK can help you to relax and unwind," said Alice Munro of Age Concern Somerset in the report.
Old-age pensioners who may be considering using buses for shorter trips can benefit from new Get On Board travel pamphlets that help retirees understand how to limit the possibility of falls while using public transportation, according to the Bath Chronicle.
"While the bus remains one of the safest forms of transport around, we recognise some older people may have a fear of falling, and we are keen to support them," said Justin Davies, regional marketing director of transport firm First, told the news provider.
