The demand for Alzheimer’s care continues to grow

After being open for only one month, the Windsor Place of Wilmington, a Boston-area retirement living community, reports that it’s already 25 percent full.

The residence boasts 55 staff members, and a host of suites designated specifically for those who are suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

The demand for Alzheimer's care continues to grow When the residence is at capacity, they expect to employ approximately 70 employees.

The community claims to have attentive personal services, comfortable apartment homes and caring staff. A similar living arrangement might be a logical next step for a family member that is currently receiving homecare.

Though many seniors and their families are benefitting from the Alzheimer’s care, the community’s pressing need for the services highlight how prevalent the condition has become. According to the national Alzheimer’s Association, more than 5 million Americans suffer from Alzheimer’s disease or a form of dementia and that number is expected to increase by 10 percent in 2010.

"We’re delighted to expand our family business to meet the acute need for assisted living and housing for seniors with Alzheimer’s and related disorders," said Dennis Sargent, executive director of Windsor Place. "And it’s also gratifying to create new, skilled jobs for area residents at a time when they are sorely needed."
