Residents at the Windsor Vallejo Care Center have found that dreams can come true, it has been noted.
In news that may be of interest to those seeking skilled nursing care in California for themselves or a loved one, the home’s new Senior Memory Makers scheme has been designed to grant wishes to some of its residents.
According to the Times Herald, 80-year-old Louis Rumi was offered the chance to slip back behind the wheel of a racing car for the first time since he was a sprint driver during the 1950s and 60s.
Mr Rumi was taken to the 17th annual Rio Vista Bass Festival car show and even got the chance to race again using a special simulator.
Director of Social Services at the home Adrain Smith said no wish was too extreme and that residents should attempt to think outside the box.
Human resources director Laura Kerley added that she did not want to put limits on the dreams of seniors.
Meanwhile, Blaine Lyons, administrator of the care home, noted: "We want to make the later years in someone’s life meaningful, productive and exciting."
Elsewhere, Twin Cities has reported that health monitors may allow seniors to achieve more independent lives.
