A Massachusetts State senator will host a senior health and wellness fair at a retirement living facility in Framingham in late November.
On November 21, Senator Karen Spilka will invite visitors to a fair that was organized specifically for seniors, reports the MetroWest Daily News. The event will include workshops, exhibits and free health screenings.
It will take place at the Callahan Senior Center, beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 1 p.m.
Representatives from the MetroWest Homecare and Hospice will also be in attendance, says the news source. The organization has provided its services to thousands of elderly people this year and claims it can save seniors money by treating them at home.
Spilka says that caring for seniors in their homes can be less expensive than other alternatives, and can contribute to the happiness of these men and women, according to the publication.
The U.S. Census Bureau says that 13.4 percent of the population in Massachusetts was over the age of 65 in 2008. Last year, about 6.5 million people lived in the Bay State.
