Technology is developing more quickly than ever before and the progress that is taking place could have a positive impact on retirement living.

The Chicago Sun-Times recently published a story that covered an exposition held by the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging. The event featured the Idea House, which contained technology and innovations that were designed to help seniors remain independent.

"These innovations are for current senior citizens capable and willing to try them," Kathy Greenlee, the U.S.

The future of senior housing assistant secretary for aging, told the news source. "In years to come, baby boomers will demand them."

Some of the innovations included robots, automatic pill dispensers, security and emergency response systems, according to the publication.

Toyota is one of several companies that is currently developing helper robots designed for eldercare. The machines can walk on two legs and perform a variety of tasks that are difficult or tiring for some seniors, according to the company’s website.

The Sun-Times says that approximately 90 percent of the products that are included in the Idea House have already reached the market.
