Sixteen-year-old Matthews Gonzales-Rubio has been taking his passion for cooking and using it to brighten the day of Alzheimer’s patients at a local assisted living center. STLtoday.com reports that Gonzales-Rubio has been travelling to the Garden View Care Center in Chesterfield, Missouri once a month to host what he called "Matthew’s Monthly Munchies."

The news source reports that the teenager leads residents in creating simple desserts that are generally geared toward a specific theme.

"We’ll find a subject, and then they’ll just talk," Gonzales-Rubio told the news provider. "When we did the flag cake, it was great because I learned who served in the military back in the day."

The high school junior is providing a valuable service to the Alzheimer’s patients, as keeping them active and spending time with others can be an especially beneficial move. According to SeniorHealth.com, studies have shown that older adults who feel isolated may be more susceptible to health-related issues than those who enjoy more social interaction.
