More evidence has emerged showing senior citizens benefiting from complicated replacement surgeries, despite their well-advanced age.

Toni Wojton, a 71-year-old New Jersey resident, had ankle replacement surgery in September and is now enjoying her favorite actives again, which include boating, golf and softball, APP.com reports.

Prior to the life-enhancing surgery Wojton suffered from an arthritic condition in her ankle, which limited her mobility and took her favorite active hobbies away from her, according to the article.

After hearing about the potential benefits of ankle replacement surgery, Wojton signed up for the operation, states the APP.com.

"It was a five-hour procedure and I really don’t remember much from it. I didn’t feel much pain at all. After six weeks, I gingerly put some pressure on my foot and used a walker to get around. It is definitely getting much better," Wojton told the news provider.

It seems age is no longer a viable reason to avoid complicated procedures such as ankle and knee replacement surgery, thanks to medical advancements.

Americans aged 85 and older are the fastest-growing segment of the population, according to the U.S. census bureau.
