More and more seniors are finding that the internet has changed how they can interact with others their age as they look for love that isn’t bound by their independent living community.
Americans over 50 now represent the fastest growing segment of online dating accounts as older men find it an "unbelievable opportunity," aging editor Susan Paisner told the Washington Post.
"They’re seeing their sons and daughters use online dating and have success with it," Joe Tracy, Online Dating Magazine editor, explained to the news provider.
"And we’ve been seeing online dating services really target the senior citizens and baby-boomer market."
Longer life expectancies and changing attitudes about what is proper and what is healthy are helping seniors to look for partners both on- and off-line, reported the Tri-City Herald.
Sociologist Pepper Schwartz told the newspaper that more positive attitudes about relationships in retirement living communities have made more elderly people happy, even if some adult children may raise an eyebrow at a parent who chooses to live with a new partner.
