Approximately 77 percent of grandparents polled in a new survey say President Barack Obama will be a more effective leader thanks to the in-home grandparenting his children will receive from his mother-in-law, Marian Robinson.

The survey, conducted by Grandparents.com, also found about 83 percent of respondents saying the presence of Robinson at the White House will redefine the importance of grandparents in the American family. Poll: Obama will be effective thanks to in-home grandparenting Robinson will help care for 7-year-old Sasha and 10-year-old Malia.

"Close to six million grandparents live in the same home as their grandchildren. And Marion Robinson in the White House validates the contributions that grandparents across the country are making to their families," Amy Goyer, spokeswoman for Grandparents.com, said.

Another 64 percent of respondents said the current state of the economy may inspire other families to follow in the president's footsteps as a way to cut down on costs. While this is a possibility, Goyer said there were more advantages to having a grandparent at home besides the cost benefit.

"In multigenerational households, grandparents tend to be central figures in their grandchildren's life. Kids get a daily dose of family history and culture, they get extra special attention," Goyer said.
