Fighting Alzheimer’s together

Not even a stroke and Alzheimer’s disease could keep June Pond and her husband Marshall apart.

After visiting Marshall religiously at Banner Alzheimer’s Residence for approximately two years, June suffered a stroke and was forced to move into a group retirement home, the Arizona Republic reports.

Fighting Alzheimer's together Because of that, June was unable to visit her husband with her trademark opening remark of "I’m your big, fat, ugly wife."

Marshall’s health quickly deteriorated and may have gotten worse had Banner had not given the Pond family a discount to house both June and Marshall in the same place, a new policy the facility now extends to all families, according to the article.

June currently lives in a neighboring wing and comes by Marshall’s room for extended visits, states the Republic. Together, they sing and talk to each other even though it may not always make sense.

During a recent visit, June attempted to get a smile out of Marshall saying "You’re a stinker. Give me a smiley." Eventually, Marshall let out a small grin and made a deep grunt.

"You’re doing pretty good. I think I’m going to keep you," June told her husband as she leaned close, according to the Republic.
