There’s one senior resident at Genesis ElderCare that will be walking around with a wider smile than usual.
Bea Stutts, who has lived at Genesis ElderCare since it opened 20 years ago, recently got a new walking trail dedicated to her, the Mooresville Tribune reports.
The Bea Stutts Walking Trail is a quarter mile in length and will feature benches, an arbor, flowers and a water fountain.
The new trail is part of the facility’s 20th anniversary celebration and has been a popular addition for the residents, according to the article.
Walking is one of the top recreational sports for seniors, due to its low risk and accessibility. Seniors who keep a regular walking routine may experience such health benefits as controlling their weight, helping with body circulation and relieving depression.
Those who employ a more regimented schedule by dedicating 30 to 60 minutes a day, four to six times a week can also decrease the risk of heart disease, diabetes and obesity.
Genesis has more than 200 centers across 13 Eastern states and offers a variety of services such as Specialized Alzheimer’s care and orthopedic rehabilitation.
