Many young people have been using social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook to stay connected to friends and family for years. However, active living seniors who lead busy and full lives might have just as much need for the fun interaction as their younger counterparts.
According to eMarketer’s Boomers and Social Media report, the percentage of Millennials who used social media remained fairly constant, but the number of baby boomers who joined and used the media tools skyrocketed.
In fact, 47 percent of baby boomers now have an online profile, which is a 15 percent increase from last year, according to the report.
The social networking site might offer retirement living seniors a way to stay up-to-date on the comings and goings of their children and grandchildren, and could also serve as a way for older Americans to reconnect with people from their past.
There are currently more than 350 million active users on Facebook.
