Many active living seniors like to crank up the tunes while they exercise and enjoy listening to their iPod while they walk or jog outside or work out on the treadmill or elliptical.

However, experts urge seniors to consider the warnings that come included with most mp3 players, and keep the volume of their music at a safe level to avoid permanent hearing loss.

Active living seniors could damage their hearing with some mp3 players

According to the Active Senior online, there are currently 16 million baby boomers suffering from hearing loss, and that number is expected to increase to 78 million by 2030 because of the excessive misuse of electronic music devices like iPods.

There are 173 million iPod users out there, and many of them don’t know the dangers associated with listening to very loud music, according to Time magazine.

The news source suggests that music-lovers limit their mp3 time to 90 minutes per day, and only listen at 80 percent max volume or less.
