Many active living seniors work hard to stay in shape and remain healthy.

From daily trips to the gym to forgoing their favorite calorie-laden foods, it’s often a challenge to stay in tip-top shape, though the rewards of a healthy lifestyle are sure to be worth the effort.
However, should active living seniors be paying as much attention to their grandchildren’s health as their own?

A report published in the medical journal Pediatrics suggests that the growing number of obese American children means that many youngsters are likely to be at risk for heart disease as they grow older.

To reduce the chances of American youth experiencing the downsides of obesity and hypertension, the report suggests that parents and grandparents should monitor blood pressure levels of school-aged children more closely, and educate themselves as to the best way to treat the condition.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that active living seniors should neglect their own health!

The Beth Isreal Deaconess Medical Center, a teaching hospital for Harvard Medical School, suggests that seniors schedule an annual checkup to evaluate their overall health.
